The Two Towers
Movie Synopsis

In this second installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy the quest to destroy the ring continues. The Fellowship however is no longer intact, it has been divided into three groups.

Lost in the rocky hills of Emyn Muil, Frodo and his ever faithful companion Sam continue alone on their quest to destroy the One Ring. They are followed however by the creature Gollum, a former owner of the Ring who is doomed to be haunted by it’s power all his life. After being captured by the hobbits, Gollum promises to guide them to the Black Gates of Mordor in return for his release. Frodo takes pity on Gollum, seeing his own possible fate in the former ring bearer. Sam however does not trust Gollum and begrudgingly follows their new guide through the desolation of Mordor.

Merry and Pippin have been captured by Orcs who attempt to take them to the tower of Orthanc, the refuge of the corrupted wizard Saruman. The hobbits manage to escape however and are befriended by Treebeard, an Ent or tree-like creature who lives in the dreaded Fangorn forest.

Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli have been chasing after Merry and Pippin, determined to free them from their Orc captors. In their pursuit they are met by the riders of Rohan who offer little hope of finding their captured friends. In their desperate searching the company is met by an unlikely friend. Gandalf returns as the resurrected Gandalf the White. After being assured of the Hobbits safety Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli follow Gandalf to the kingdom of Rohan, a land ruled by once great King Theoden who has fallen under Saruman’s deadly spell through the manipulations of his spy, the sinister Wormtongue.

The battle for middle Earth begins as the people must stand together against the forces from the Two Towers– Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman has bred a lethal army 10,000 strong; and Sauron’s fortress at Barad-dûr, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.
