The Fellowship of the
Ring
In this first installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson introduces us to the world of Middle Earth. In a quiet and peaceful land called the Shire, a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins inherits a ring; however, there is much more to this ring then meets the eye. Long before this ring came into Frodo’s possession, it was created by Sauron, the dark lord of Mordor. It is the One Ring, containing all of Sauron’s “cruelty, malice, and will to dominate Middle Earth”. The ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom, in the heart of Sauron’s realm of Mordor. Frodo is appointed the ring bearer who must do this but he will have some help along the way. A fellowship consisting of Frodo’s loyal Hobbit friends, the wizard Gandalf, Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf and men Aragorn and Boromir are appointed to help guide and protect Frodo. The journey will not be easy. Sauron’s power is growing and he is using the terrifying Nazgul and his armies of Orcs to search for the ring. The fellowship must escape the forces that are hunting them as well as fight the internal corruptive force of the One Ring itself. The course of Middle Earth’s future is entwined with the fate of the Fellowship.
